Get Started FreeStableford is a points-based golf scoring system where players earn points on each hole based on their score relative to par. Unlike stroke play where every shot counts against you, stableford rewards aggressive play because a bad hole only costs you zero points rather than ruining your total score. It's one of the most popular formats for casual golf and club competitions.
| Score vs Par | Points |
|---|---|
| Double Eagle (Albatross) | 5 |
| Eagle | 4 |
| Birdie | 3 |
| Par | 2 |
| Bogey | 1 |
| Double Bogey or worse | 0 |
Modified Stableford uses a more aggressive scoring scale that includes negative points for bogey and worse. Used most famously in the PGA Tour's Barracuda Championship, the modified system awards 8 points for a double eagle, 5 for eagle, 2 for birdie, 0 for par, -1 for bogey, and -3 for double bogey or worse. This encourages risk-taking and produces more exciting golf.
